This week we’re checking out a 35″ Scale Four-String model by luthier Ben Lambdin of Lambdin Guitars. The California-based builder opened shop recently, but he’s no new-comer to the industry.
“After nearly a decade of working for and learning from some of the most respected guitar manufacturers in the world, such as the Santa Cruz Guitar Co, Zon Guitars, and the Hill Guitar Co, I am proudly building guitars bearing my own name,” Lambdin writes on his website. “All my instruments are handmade from scratch by one person with two hands and a few power tools – wood is sourced locally in the San Francisco Bay Area, with an emphasis on locally harvested and sustainably salvaged hardwoods – components used are made in the USA.”
This bass is tuned B-E-A-D for the low end of a five-string bass with the familiarity of a vintage P-bass neck. It’s built with a Honduran Mahogany body, a quarter-sawn Bocote neck, and a Macassar Ebony fingerboard. Lambdin fit the bass with a pair of Ulyate handmade B90 pickups as well as Hipshot hardware.
