Luthier Eric Doucet of Cosmic Woodworking posted some photos of his latest build in the No Treble Facebook group, and people took notice. The Jupiter bass has a lot going for it, but the choice of woods is a knockout. Its body is built from swamp ash and Spanish cedar with a carved Sitka spruce top that is more than easy on the eyes.
“The carve is kind of my spin on a German carve. The body and contouring are based on the Mosrite design,” Doucet tells us. “I softened the contour around the arm area to be a little more comfortable than the rest of the carve.”
The neck is equally sweet with layered mahogany, wenge, and pau Amarillo with a Sitka spruce headstock veneer to match the top. Doucet complements the light spruce a rich rosewood for the fingerboard, knobs, jack plate, and pickup ring, which houses a super hip Curtis Novak Darkstar.
The bass is held together with a Hipshot B-Style brass bridge and Ultralite tuners. It has an extra long 35-inch scale, but all in all, it only weighs 7.6 pounds.
