Sometimes Facebook is so full of drama that I think about freezing my account. Then I scroll by a beautiful bass like this Biadar from Egilegor Basses, and my faith is restored.
Built by luthier Imanol Artola Egilegor in Spain, the model is their double-cut shape with a longer upper horn that helps to balance the weight. This particular bass is special because it features their new Hell pickup, which is named for the grueling process of creating it. Egilegor spent two years working on the beast.
“[It is built] to match the best configuration of Alnico pickups of all time and [mix] them to get a very wide range of sounds, from jazz bass bridge tone to MM style sound, precision and much more,” he writes. “Each row has a volume to control the sound separately and has a push-pull to put each row in parallel-series, then you have the kill switch to get all off.”
As if that’s not enough versatility, the bass is fitted with an Aguilar OBP-3 active/passive preamp. Other features include a wonderfully sculpted swamp ash body, a laminated five-piece maple and padauk neck with an asymmetric profile, and an ebony fretboard.
