Our friend Sébastien Thorel sent us pictures a couple of gorgeous basses to check out, including this six-string Lyra by CG Lutherie. “I first met CG at a bass day in Annecy (a French town in Rhône Alpes) where he came with some of his handmade basses,” he wrote. “I was first very impressed (almost fell in love) with another model called Orchid. But at the beginning of 2017, I looked thru the internet for a 6-string bass and since I do not want a stock instrument, I visited CG’s internet site and saw the LYRA.”
The bass features an extended 35-inch scale on neck-through design. Its three-piece maple neck is matched with Alder body wings and topped with a pau ferro fingerboard. For electronics, Thorel opted for a pair of Crel DB62’s matched to a Noll TCM2 preamp. It has a stacked bass and treble knob with a push/pull function on the volume knob to toggle between active and passive operation. It’s rounded out with Hipshot hardware.
