This week we check out the Kayenta bass from the Italian bass builders at Manne Guitars. Designed around an offset body, the bass’s shape puts it in a more upward angled position when playing that the company says is suited well for players that wear their instrument higher. Its korina body is also multi-chambered to add a more complex midrange tone, and each bass is finished off with a mastergrade top and natural finish.
The Kayenta’s neck is a thick laminate flanked by maple sides and is topped with a phenolic resin fingerboard fitted with 24 jumbo frets. The neck also has an asymmetrical profile for comfortable playing.
The pickups are a pair of Manne blade pickups with their coil wound directly on the blades instead of on bobbins. Manne says this gives them a fast, pure and detailed sound reproduction. Each pickup has a three-way switch to offer series, parallel and split modes. They’re paired with a Glockenklang boost circuit for a little extra kick.
