Maghini, who formerly built under the M Basses banner, shared the background on the new offering.

“To celebrate 25 years, I thought it would be cool to revisit some of my earlier M Basses designs and landed on a template for a 21-fret 5-string I had tucked away,” Maghini tells us. “Some slight changes were made to improve the overall aesthetic and the new EVO 521 was born! I’ve also developed an awesome new neck profile for my five-string models, which has a super comfortable flat oval shape and can accommodate multiple scale lengths. In addition to the 521, a four-string version, the 421 is available as well. An EVO 424, and 524 are also in the works! As always, I’m building each and every instrument in-house to customer specifications, and I welcome any and all inquiries!”

The EVO 521 Standard is a five-string bass with 21 frets. Maghini builds it with a Tulip wood body finished in Satin Sage Green. Its flat-sawn maple neck features a maple fingerboard with a 16″ radius and ebony dot inlays.

For electronics, Maghini opted for Trickfish Amplification split coil pickups and the Trickfish IPA 3-band preamp. The control set includes master volume, blend, bass, mid, and treble knobs. The volume knob has a push/pull function to toggle between active and passive modes, while the Mid knob has a push/pull function to adjust the frequency band.

Finally, the Maghini EVO 521 is fitted with a Hipshot B Style bridge and Ultralite tuners.

Luthier Jon Maghini hit a special milestone this year, and he’s reaching into his past to celebrate it with the Maghini Guitars EVO 521 Bass.
