This week we\u2019re taking a look at the Futura from Roks Instruments out of The Netherlands. Luthier Axel Roks, who created the bass as part of Dutch Design Week, uses the human body as a large influence on his creations. <\/p>\n

\"Roks<\/p>\n

\u201cThis design originated out of the idea that a bass guitar could be an object in itself,\u201d he writes on his website<\/a>. \u201cStrong influences of the female body combined with hand shaped aluminum create contrast. Besides the intriguing design every Futura is equipped with a custom made TripleBucker and semi parametric equalizer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Tripplebucker has separate on\/off switches for each of the three coils, allowing for some serious tonal diversity. While the bass can be made with a variety of woods, this particular Futura is built with a two-piece ash body, a book-matched birdseye maple top, a quartersawn hard maple neck, an aluminum support and a pau ferro fretboard. <\/p>\n
