Canna Guitars shared one of their latest creations on social media, and it stopped me in my tracks. The Canna EVO Acoustic Archtop bass guitar is a striking design with elegant features like an open headstock, gold hardware, and a multi-scale neck. Its spruce top resembles that of many other acoustic basses, but Canna made the rest of the body out of solid ebony, which is a unique feature I\u2019ve never seen before. <\/p>\n

\u201cPretty hard to do the concave bend, but I like that with the all-black design,\u201d luthier Jakob Frank explains. \u201cIt almost doesn\u2019t look like wood anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explains the rest of the design on his website. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis bass guitar is based on my EVO model and resembles the evolution of my regular Hempstone roundback guitars using solid wood. The shape of the body provides a much tighter fit to the body while maintaining a big body volume,\u201d he writes. \u201cThe side sound port is directed at the player and provides a huge bass response. The thumb rest allows for great playability and orientation while looking perfectly fitting with the fan fret-design.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can hear the bass in this clip from Facebook, which blends the Harry H\u00e4ussel pickup with a microphone on the body. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
