This week we’re checking out the Nelson Instruments Paramount, a killer bass that’s oozing vintage appeal. Its funky maple body is matched to a quarter sawn hard maple neck and set with hot hide glue, which Nelson says offers extras sustain and rigidity.
The secret sauce to the bass is in its pickups, Nelson adds. “The Paramount comes standard with a pair of Nelson “Dynamo” single-coil pickups, mounted to a gold-anodized aluminum pickguard,” they write. “These pickups have been specially designed to faithfully reproduce the bass register yielding balanced, clear, resonant tones. The sound is truly unlike that of anything you’ve heard. The pickups are wax potted so undesirable micro-phonics are eliminated. The aluminum pickguard affords greater wear resistance and beauty while blocking unwanted magnetic interference which can also cause hum.”
The Paramount comes in a satin lacquer with an array of colors. Other features include Hipshot Ultra Light tuners, 20 frets, and a 33.25-inch scale length.
